The Mobile County Master Gardeners (MCMG) joined us on campus! They rolled up their sleeves to transplant their seedlings and got a closer look at our potting mix and why it works. This collaboration supports both our plant systems courses and their upcoming plant sale, which our students help prepare through seed starting and transplanting. Nothing better than learning together and talking plants with people who love growing as much as we do! #CTEMatters #AgEducation #HandsOnLearning

Recently students in Mrs. Touchstone's Forensics class completed their blood splatter lab. Next they will dive into analyzing the spatter and calculating angle of impact—where the real detective work begins! 🔍📐 This was the fun part. Over the last two weeks they have talked about how investigators analyze blood stains. the students were taught them about identifying blood stain direction and then how to calculate the angle of impact. With this information, investigators can start to determine things such as: type of weapon, where the victim was located and where the suspect stood. The point of the lab was to create some spatter to analyze (after it all dries of course😉)!

Students in our Drawing 2 and 3 classes created an original surrealist anatomical heart artwork that combines observation, cultural research, memory, and imagination. To begin this project students examined anatomically correct heart references, explored surrealist concepts such as symbolism, scale, and juxtaposition, and researched global proverbs and beliefs about the heart. Through inquiry, experimentation with media, and ethical artmaking practices, students demonstrate technical skill, craftsmanship, and originality while producing a professionally presented final artwork. 🫀❤️

Congratulations to Dr. Karla McInnis who recently secured Ingalls Future Shipbuilders STEM Grants from Ingalls Shipbuilding to enhance the STEM lessons in their classrooms. Out of more than 1,000 applications, Mary G. Montgomery was only one of two MCPSS schools and 1 of only 15 schools and educational programs across Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama to receive one of these grants. Dr. McInnis will use her grant for Physics in Action – An honors physics class will gain hands scientific equipment to explore and visualize physics principles through real-world experimentation.

Our Pre-K students had a blast making King Cakes!
A huge thank you to our amazing students and teachers in the Fine Arts Department and our Academy of Hospitality and Tourism for making this special experience happen.

Our Pre-K friends started by carefully shaping the dough into a perfect circle. Then our high school students worked their magic and baked the cakes to perfection. And of course, the best part came next… icing and sprinkles!

Watching our Pre-K students decorate their King Cakes was pure joy—and judging by the smiles on their faces, they were incredibly yummy!

February is Career and Technical Education (CTE) Month! 🎉
Throughout the next few weeks, we will be spotlighting our incredible CTE teachers, programs, and student organizations. With seven on-campus programs, our students have access to hands-on learning experiences that prepare them for college, careers, and life beyond the classroom.

Alabama Governor Kay Ivey has officially declared February as CTE Month, recognizing the powerful impact of Career and Technical Education across our state. Career and Technical Education Month® is a national public awareness campaign hosted by ACTE and sponsored by the National Association of Home Builders, celebrating the achievements of CTE programs and highlighting their importance for students of all ages.

We’re proud to showcase the opportunities CTE provides and the success of our students!

Congratulations to Christian Andrews for being chosen as one of our January 2026 Employees of the Month. The Employee of the Month for January was based on their performance during their paid internship over the Christmas break. This recognition is selected by the instructor based on the feedback received from the jobsite supervisors.

Christian’s instructor, Mr. Davis said that “This young man was excited and engaged. The contractor had great reviews on this employee and even gave him a gift of tools with a pouch to hold them. He will be an asset to any company, glad he is a team player!”
